Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT)
Background
The LGBT forum was set up in March 2007 by the Community Safety Partnership. This forum was conceived to give a voice to members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) communities who may be concerned about homophobia and/or transphobia and its consequences. The forum focuses on those who live, work, study, visit or socialise within the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames.
The forum acts as an advisory body to the local Council, the police and other relevant agencies on issues facing LGBT hate crimes and discrimination.
LGBT volunteers organise and chair the forum. Meetings take place every six weeks alongisde statutory partners, and other interested organisations, to address and reduce homophobia and transphobia and to promote best practice.
The forum is open to anyone to attend, although only those who self-identify as LGBT are entitled to full voting membership.
